BMJ Awards at Chennai a glitzy event

The BMJ South Asia Awards honours the best contributions in healthcare and medicine in the region each year after a rigorous selection process.

Into its fifth edition this year, there were entries from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Exeter was honoured to be part of the glittering awards night that was held at The Hilton Chennai, on December 1, 2018. The glamorous red-carpet event had a stand-up performer and an entertaining MC keeping the audience engaged. Peter Ashman, CEO of BMJ, gave a beautiful rendition of the Frank Sinatra classic, New York, New York! Sowmya and other members of the audience too chipped in with a few lines of their favourite songs.

It was heartening to see the exemplary, cutting-edge work in the field of medicine in South Asia. To know more about the awardees and their work, read on>>

Rounding up 2018 with exhilarating adventures and strong camaraderie

The Exeter family got together on a cool Saturday in the last week of December at an open-air adventure and sports centre by the beach in Chennai to celebrate “Exeter Day”. The day was special because it was also a celebration of Exeter stepping into its 15th year of incorporation.

The day began with veterans talking about their journey with Exeter - they were honoured with long-service awards at the event. Ravi shared his thoughts on the future of Exeter. His inspiring session was followed by a host of cultural programmes by the associates. The talent on display in songs, plays and dance shows was phenomenal. Loud cheers accompanied the performances. The latter half of the day was spent in exploring the plethora of adventurous activities at the location - ejection bungee, obstacle courses, paintball, dune buggy, volleyball and more.

The team capped the year with adrenaline and camaraderie running high, and looks forward to a great 2019. Happy New Year!

4DX adoption for achieving improvement goals

The 4 Disciplines of Execution (4DX) by Franklin Covey is a set of practices that can be incorporated into day-to-day activities at all levels of an organization to achieve goals. It is designed to work across a range of organizations - start-ups to industry giants - and across industries.

Sowmya attended a workshop on 4DX a few months ago and was inspired to adopt the framework for improving certain critical processes in Exeter. She set-up a small data analysis team to help drive targeted data collection and track metrics for the projects that were earmarked. This team also makes sure that the accountability and the cadence is kept up. 4DX was customized to suit Exeter’s needs - lean principles like root cause analysis and FMEA analysis were included to evolve a 4DX-Lean framework. The focus was problem-solving through data analysis using lean principles.

The advantages and benefits so far have been -
  • People are not the problem - move the focus away from people and focus on the process/problem area, especially in areas with cross functional teams collaborating quite a lot
  • Positive changes in team behaviour - they are excited when their action has an immediate effect on the parameters being monitored
  • Flexibility in adoption - it can be rolled for a team or multiple teams, and does not require heavy investments in training or software
Having started this 3 months ago and seeing the success that 4DX-Lean has brought in, the plan is to roll this out to the entire company. To delve more into the 4DX process, read on>>
